Plan Check - Development Services Department
The following are examples of the types of plans that should be submitted through the Development Services Department. Contact the Development Services Department to find out what additional information may be needed as part of the submittal process.
  • Additions or remodels of single family dwellings
  • New commercial buildings
  • New industrial buildings
  • New single family dwellings
  • Storage racks that are at least eight feet in height
  • Tenant improvements to industrial or commercial buildings
To initially submit architectural plans for Fire Department review, please submit the plans to the Development Services Department. They will assign a plan check number to the project and forward 2 sets of plans to the Fire Department for review.

Plan Check - Fire Department
Following are examples of the types of plans that should be submitted directly to the Fire Department, as well as additional information that may be needed:
  • New fire sprinkler systems
    • 3 sets of plans
    • 3 complete sets of material data sheets
    • 3 sets of calculations
  • Tenant improvement fire sprinkler plans (installation or removal)
    • 3 sets of plans
    • 3 sets of material data sheets
    • 3 sets of calculations may be required depending on the extent of the tenant improvement
  • Fire sprinkler supply lines
    • 3 sets of plans
    • 3 sets of material data sheets
  • Fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler monitoring systems
    • 3 sets of plans
    • 3 sets of State Fire Marshal listings for all equipment used
    • 3 sets of battery calculations
  • Installation of underground and above ground fuel tanks
    • 3 sets of plans
    • 3 sets of material data sheets
    • Please note that above ground installations may need Planning Department approval prior to Fire Department plan review
  • Removal of underground fuel tanks
    • 3 sets of plans
  • Above ground liquid petroleum gas (LPG) tanks - 125 gallons or greater
    • 3 sets of plans
    • 3 sets of material data sheets
    • Please note that this may require Planning Department approval prior to Fire Department plan review
  • Hood and duct fire protection systems
    • 3 sets of plans
  • Gas fire protection system (Intergen, FM200, Sapphire, etc.)
    • 3 sets of plans
    • 3 sets of material data sheets
    • 3 sets of calculations
  • Above ground and underground fuel tank installations and removals may require County of San Diego Hazardous Materials Department plan approval.

  • Above ground LPG tank installations may require County of San Diego Hazardous Materials Department approval.
    • Contact the County of San Diego for details

All fees for Fire Department plan check will be collected by Development Services by the time of plan submittal.
